Frank Kloeker

Technology Manager, Deutsche Telekom

Frank Kloeker works at Deutsche Telekom as a Technology Manager for cloud applications. He is experienced in Cloud for 7 years, IT for 21 years and 31 years for Operations.

His active time in OpenStack Community began in 2015. He is one of active German translators in OpenStack I18n team, and also he contributes I18n toolings with puppet scripts for translation platform upgrade and translation checksite. Frank is currently PTL.

The Enterprise Working Group is his second workstream in the OpenStack Community. Target of this working group is to identify and remove barriers to Enterprise adoption and deployments of OpenStack because Frank worked in application operation for internet platforms for many years.

Third thing, he invented the Cloud-Kindergarten of Deutsche Telekom 2016. Young people like apprentices and students are trained on production platforms in OpenStack Operations and learning modern Cloud technologies and working in global teams.

Translate the world – how to manage a global community

Abstrakt:
The OpenStack I18n is one of the biggest team in the OpenStack community. The people are mostly located in non-english speaking countries in different timezones around the planet. You can imagine, diversity is one of the main topics in our team. Different cultures, and different languages. How to manage this? The story goes back from the beginning as a contributor and the work as Project Team Lead in the last cycle.

Translating things in OpenStack are not only human work. It gives an insight into the technology behind it and a fully automatic deployment.

What Should Attendees Expect to Learn?

Join the OpenStack community as a contributor in a simply way: as a Translator. This session shows how it works. It will introduce the team with their work and tools. You can learn to work in a global community and transfer the working methods to your local team.
